Local #1238 has three new shops! We welcome Western Draperies, H. D. Flooring and Floor Tech to our list of signatory contractors.

Western Drapery is a full service shop located in Auburn. Owner Ray Hoene sells both floor and window coverings, and concentrates mostly on small to mid-sized commercial jobs as well as residential. Currently there are two installers, but Western hopes to expand to four to six in the next year or so.

        H. D. Flooring is owned by Dan Harrison and currently works mostly with QFC stores.

Floor Tech, owned by Robin Bessie, currently has a crew of two but should be up to four or more in the next couple of months.

Join us in wishing our newest shops all the best.

Local #1238, and our signatory shops have completed the 2002 Washington State Prevailing Wage Survey. This survey will set the wage rates that must be paid on all state, county and city project in the State of Washington. Our thanks go out to all the owners (and especially the office staff) that helped with this task. This is an example how working together labor and management help secure work for our members and profits for our shops. With more efforts like this we will be able to secure a larger market share.

On May 1st Jay Weaver of the Finishing Contractors Association gave a presentation to our shop owners covering what benefits joining the FCA can bring. The owners were especially interested in marketing possibilities of Union shops.
